Mobile Robots in Hospital Environments: an Installation Case Study
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper discusses a number of issues arose during the deployment of a commercial robotic platform in a hospital scenario. In particular, a realistic case study and installation process at Polyclinic of Modena (Italy) is described, where robots have to accomplish two different types of tasks, namely drugs delivery and waste transportation. The lesson learned is that the design of a robot to be used in civilian environments must not only take into account state of the art and dependable algorithms, but also consider real-world issues (i.e., not strictly scientific or technological) when adopting techniques for navigation, obstacle avoidance or localization. The paper discusses the most important features of the overall system architecture that have been modified and the solutions that have been selected to deal with this realistic scenario.

Position Estimation for Mobile Robots in Dynamic Environments
For mobile robots to be successful, they have to navigate safely in populated and dynamic environments. While recent research has led to a variety of localization methods that can track robots well in static environments, we still lack methods that can robustly localize mobile robots in dynamic environments, in which people block the robot’s sensors for extensive periods of time or the position...
متن کاملExperimental Analysis for Measuring Errors in Wheeled Mobile Robots (RESEARCH NOTE)
This paper presents experimental analysis of wheeled mobile robots. Mathematical modelling of the mobile robot is presented. The mobile robots consist of an omni-directional and three differential drive mobile robots are tested and moved in given trajectories and the systematic errors of the robots are determined. A new method for omni-direction mobile robot was introduced in which the robot wa...
